Air Rant

You know there are some shows that when you first see it you go "Whoa..." In a good way, as in you stuck to it and have to see it all the way through, Air is one of those anime's.

...Man that's hard for me to watch...

Now after watching that...You'd think "Well that says it all." But hold on a second, why would I rant about it unless there's something wrong with it? Well that's what I'm going to tell you, this anime is a mask for what it really is.

It has a sad ending

No lie, it is the Romeo and Juliet of anime. But before I go into what's bad why don't we start at the beginning first?

Air is a Japanese visual novel and was made by the studio Key-Key is a Japanese visual novel studio under Visual Art's, known for making dramatic and plot-oriented visual novels, Air was first a game, turned into a manga turned into a anime. Thirteen episodes were produced by Kyoto Animation: with the last going over the whole anime.

So why do I not like this anime? The animation is great, the story is cool, the characters are good, and the detail is nearly perfect.

..............

Did I mention it has a sad ending?

Ok let's go over the story now,

The first story is called the "Dream" Arc.

Yukito is a showman, who goes across Japan trying to make money with a puppet show...which earns him no money. After spending time in a small town he meets Misuzu Kamio, who is a nice girl and is very clumsy. Later on Yukito meets Kano Kirishima and her dog Potato, and Minagi Tohno, and her friend Michiru

Misuzu, Kano, and Minagi

Ok here's the deal, Yukito has been told a story by her mother and this story has been passed down from generations about the "Girl with wings" Ok? Yukito's mother wants him to find her and fulfil the family's goal. After a few episodes Yukito finds that all the girls have a strange past, but only one is the reincarnation of the girl...the angel.

Ok that's not too confusing is it? Good cause I'm moving along.

Yukito helps Kano and Minagi with their remnants (problems) about they're past and they both succeed, Kano's problem is with a feather that Yukito has to solve, and he does, and Kano and her family are all happy. But Minagi's is more painful as her friend Michiru is just a person she has made up with her mind, and she has to let her go, and Michiru disappears...and that's sad.

But there's one girl left, Misuzu, and her problem can't be fixed so easily.

Misuzu suffers from an unknown condition where her body begins to have tremors if she try's to make friends with anyone...yeah that sounds silly but let's carry on. Misuzu's tremors are so bad that she's about to die, and Yukito has realized already she's the angel, and he remembers the curse of the angel

"If the angel falls in love with someone before they turn 15, then the boy and the angel die."

Wow...I wonder what's going to happen? Well we don't find out because Yukito leaves her, then comes back because he can't just leave her...then he starts to glow a golden color...then....wait for it.......They move to another story

..........

Yeah that was great timing

The second story is called the "Summer" Arc

The new story takes place a 1,000 years before the current one is happening, about Kannabi who is the most recent angel to exist, is a prisoner and guarded by Ryūya, who looks EXACTLY like Yukito, along with they're other friend, Uraha, who is a telekinetic......................whatever.

This story goes about how you'd imagine it, all three of them escape the castle and Kanna wants to find her mother, so they all go to find Kanna's mother.

Now it's because of Kanna that this "love curse" exists in the first place, but if you watch the events you'll find that Kanna is just a victim of the curse as much as Misuzu is, they both cannot escape the curse no matter what they do.

They find Kanna's mother, but the mother dies about the moment they break her out, and now the three of them are surrounded by the Buddhist Monks that were following them. Kanna decides to try and fly away so at least the other two won't be harmed.

Now you probably have to see it to understand what's going on, but I'll explain it the best I can. The three of them are in a big forest, and the guards are closing in around them, like have them surrounded ok? So Kanna fly's into the air with her wings to try and get away, now there's thousands of guards with bows and arrows that shoot at her, and some of the arrows hit her, and after a few hit she slows down enough for everyone to hit her, then she disappears.

That's LAME!

Ryūya is so mad he wants to kill every last archer that shot Kanna, and I would too, but after they escape the guards they try to see if they can bring Kanna back to life...or at least talk to her...I don't know, but they see a vision of Kanna and they find out about the angel curse...Yep Kanna fell in love with Ryūya and since Kanna is already dead.....the curse still remains and he has 2 months to live. So Ryūya and Uraha come up with a plan, they get married, and pass the story on to their kids so that maybe one day their super great grandchild could save the reincarnated angel

Now it goes back to the first story, but it's called the "Air" Arc

Yukito is still golden color, and he turns into a crow........That's right......a crow.......he doesn't die, he just turns into a crow........And not only does he turn into a crow, he gets sent back to the past to the day where he and Misuzu first met, only he's there as a crow this time...So this episode goes through the first story only this time Yukito gets to see it again as a Crow.........What could they have possibly been smoking when they made this?

So it goes over the first story but you also get to see some things that were not seen the first time but you just heard happen...which doesn't matter that much because the end result is the same. Yukito in his crow form is too helpless to do anything, and not only that he can't remember much of anything until the last episode...

How more friggin weird can this possibly get?

So what happens at the end anyway's?

Well you see Yukito in his human form beg to have Misuzu's life spared...and Yukito turns into a crow, and then Misuzu wakes up, the next few episodes Misuzu starts to forget that Yukito ever existed, then.........

Misuzu dies

.......................................

......................................

oh my gosh

Well after Misuzu dies, Yukito now in his crow form starts to remember what he forgot, and then he flies into the sky.

The End

...............................

Are you crying? Well I was. So let's go over what this all means...It means that:

  1. All of Yukito's efforts were in vain
  2. We'll have to wait another 1000 years for another angel to show up
  3. All of Yukito's ancestor's efforts were in vain

Oh and this must be the most horrible of them all

Yukito was the last person to hear the Angel story, so now he's to remain a crow forever...He can't pass the story down to anyone....

.................

So the story of the Angel Definitively ends here...

So wait a minute, when Yukito begs for Misuzu to be saved...The most logical thing to happen would be to turn him into a crow, send him back through time, so he can watch it happen all over again, and then have her die?

.................

Well how would you like it if the person you loved the most died in front of your eyes, and you were sent back through time, and you had to watch it again? Unable to change anything?

How cruel can this anime possibly get?

Oh my gosh......This is so sad...So what does that really mean?

We've been watching this anime for NO REASON!

Air is nothing but a few hours long mouse trap, the entire anime is about the cheese ok? And at the very last few episodes...Whack! you get blind sided.

This anime is terrible, and for the wrong reasons too. The animation, the detail, the music, the characters, all of that is great, and the animation is so great that this anime is the first to be put on Blu-ray disc, seriously. But because the animation detail is so great...That doesn't automatically make the entire show great.

Don't watch this anime, it's a waste of time and it will only make you cry until it hurts. It's torture. This anime is so bad, I think I want to make it over again....and have a GOOD ending. Anime isn't suppose to make you feel depressed, it's suppose to make you laugh, and feel good, and make you go "Whoa that was cool!"

And you can disagree with me all you want, but this wasn't made by Shakespeare ok? All of Shakespeare's famous works were tragedy's, and I didn't really care that much for his works...But again taking a look back on Air...The detail and look of Air is so beautiful that you get suckered in...and you can't realize what it really is until it's too late.

This anime is Stupid, it's stupid because it's sad and it's sad because it's stupid.

And there are different versions of Air, there's a movie and manga, but again...Misuzu dies at the end...So there's no real big difference.

You can watch at your own risk...But I warn you...Nothing good will come from it.

Thanks for nothing AIR!!
