Scooby Doo Rant

Ok so maybe I don't hate Scooby Doo with a passion...However there are things that are worth ranting on.

It's hard to miss Scooby Doo if your into cartoons, I guess that's because there are nearly 20 different versions of the show...And that's not an exaggeration.

The concept is about 4 teenagers and their dog...Who go around the world to find mysteries to solve...I imagine if I tried to do that with my friends they'd dump me on the side of the road and go home...And take my dog.

So what's up? They travel around and happen to find a guy in a costume scaring people? And more than once? Yes...In fact there are 274 episodes of the original show...And in every single episode they find a guy in a different costume...doing something diabolically evil...Scaring the people of the town. You know I wouldn't mind if there was one episode where Shaggy and Scooby are like at a fair and the whole episode is about them doing something more practical than finding a guy in a costume scaring people for no real reason.

So enough about the concept, what about the actual episodes? Well just like Sailor Moon let's go down the list

  • Scene where the group is in the Van arriving at the town
  • Scene where they're happy to be at the town
  • Scene where the villain appears but they don't realize it yet
  • Scene where the villain introduces himself to the group
  • Scene where Velma says Jinkies
  • Scene where Shaggy says Zoinks
  • Scene where you try to figure out what the mess Scooby Doo is saying
  • Scene where Fred and Daphne form a group and the others form a group and split up
  • Scene where Scooby and Shaggy find the ghost and run away
  • Scene where they regroup
  • Scene where Velma says she's figured it out
  • Scene where they form a trap that goes the wrong way but they end up capturing the ghost unrealisticlly
  • Scene where they unmask the ghost and everyone's shocked
  • Scene where Velma makes up something and says "I knew it all along"
  • Scene where the villian says "And I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you mediling kids...and your dog!"
  • Scene where Scooby says "Rooby Rooby Roo!

And alot of you can agree with me, every episode is like this, and for some reason you never realized it at the time.

Now the show was ok, and the characters were ok at the time, I mean there's alot of stuff you don't realize and think about at the time, and I'll give you an example of what I mean.

First of all, have you EVER solved one of the episodes before Velma does? No....Never....In the history of me watching the show have I ever solved a case before Velma...So how does Velma do it? Is it because she reads books? Because she wears glasses? No it's because the creators made her too smart.

If I was there trying to solve it...Not even Sherlock Holmes could figure out some of the mysteries that Velma could solve, it's just too ridiculous, and also if she's so smart then why doesn't she tell us all the secrets BEFORE they unmask the masked man? I mean the only thing I could figure out is some idiot got some bed sheets and poked two holes in them and makes a high pitched wailing noise...That much I could figure out. Velma is the whole show anyway's, in all of the 274 episodes, NO-ONE figures the mysteries out before Velma...Why couldn't Fred figure at least one out? What about Daphine? Scooby Doo might as well be called the Velma show.

One of the other problems I have is Fred and Daphine......What good are they? I can't recall one episode where they do something useful, most of the time they tell Shaggy and Scooby what to do...And some of you probably knew I'd get to this, it's about the part where they split into groups....Everytime they split into a group, it's Fred and Daphine...And then Shaggy, Scooby, and Velma......

..................

...So...Why do Fred and Daphine always go somewhere together? What are they doing while Velma's trying figure things out and Shaggy and Scooby are eating a 2 story sandwich? I don't know they must be making out or something because they know they can't solve it until the end of the episode. Oh and this must be my favorite part about Fred and Daphine, after Velma does all the hard work figuring out the mystery, she will go into this big long explanation about how the guy did it, and what do Fred and Daphine do? Do they go "Wow that's amazing?" NO they interupt her saying "And he did this to do that."

.....

Seriously. They say something to act like both of them knew it all along while Velma's buring holes in the back of their heads with her eyes...And after the case is solved she remembers she only has one bullet in her gun so she'll have to wait in killing both of them.

But hey sometimes Velma can't explain it all, there was one episode I remember where the guy was dressed up as a ghost...That's right...Just a ghost...Not a zombie, or a skeleton man that wears a fish bowl helmet........a ghost...But the deal was he would sometimes be real, and there were other times where he showed a projector of himself, using a mirror, and to make it look like he was walking through a wall he'd step away from the mirror......Ok in the real world there are two problems with this:

1. Walking away from the mirror doesn't make sense from a prespective view point because projections can only be seen....ON A WALL! He was showing the projection in thin air...Bull crap. And

2. He shows the group how it's done after he's caught with the cop there.......ok if I were the guy...I would show them the projection, they'd all go "wow" and when they turned around I'd be in Hawaii by then...Idiot, also the way he does it is kinda like this

Ghost-"Ha ha ha that was pretty cool how I did that huh?"

Velma- "Yeah that was cool ha ha ha."

Fred- "I never would have thought of something like that."

Cop-"Yep, you fooled us all."

Everybody's laughing..................

Cop- "Oh yeah your still going to jail."

Ya See? That never happens.

And my last comment on the characters is about Shaggy...Yeah, Shaggy is probably the first thing that comes to mind when you think hippie...The way he walks and talks and everything else does seem a bit wrong, and the rumor is he does drugs which...I mean come on it's a kids show! There's no way that could.............happen............

I think the last thing I'll mention are the thousand versions of the show, after doing 274 episodes the guys in charge thought

"Dudes, we need something that will like, totally knock their socks off."

...Well it was made in the 70's you know...

So what did they do? Did they change the format of the episodes to keep it interesting? NO, they added new characters like Scooby Dum...Who is not funny ever and has the IQ of an ant, and Scrappy Doo who had the IQ of an ant. Scrappy is probably more preferred when they realized Scooby Dum isn't funny...at all...and his speaking ability makes Scooby sound like a Senator Palpatine.

So after those two characters got old they decided to add celebrities to the mix, such as Don Knotts, the Globe Trotters, Don Knotts, Dick Van Dike, Don Knotts, Jerry Reed, Don Knotts, Batman and Robin, Johnny Bravo...Yeah...Some people you've probably never heard of either.

Now I must mention the different versions of the show, including all the specials and movies and I may missed a few but here's what I found, and they are:

  1. Scooby Doo, where are you!

................................................................................

IS THIS NESSISARY?!

What a joke, and the worst part is that most of those specials or new shows have the exact same format as the first one...It's the same as the Street Fighter2 concept, Street Fighter 3 didn't come out until we got nearly 2,000 updated versions of Street Fighter 2...Why?

That still blows my mind that there were 20 different versions of Scooby Doo, and kids still loved it just because Scooby Doo was in it.

Alright I need to get a snack *wink* Well there's my rant, Ri'll Ree Ro Rext Rime!
